- Un discurso pronunciado por el Presidente de EEUU President y dirigido al Congreso Congress. Emana de la obligación, establecida en la Constitución Constitution, de proporcionar "información acerca del estado de la Unión". - La Constitución de los EEUU, escrita después de que el país se independizara de Gran Bretaña, fue ratificada en 1789 por representantes de cada una de las trece ex colonias (thirteen Colonies) que conformaban los Estados Unidos, incluidos algunos de los padres de la nación (→ Founding Fathers - The Founding Fathers). La Constitución estableció los tres poderes de gobierno, el legislativo (→ Congress), el judicial (→ Supreme Court), y el ejecutivo (→ President).
