Der Wunsch der Bevölkerung nach einer Straßenverbindung zwischen Askvoll auf der Nordseite des Dalsfjorden und Dale entstand bereits in den 1960er Jahren.
Mit Unterstützung einer Unterschriftenaktion begannen 1975 auch die Arbeiten an den Zubringerstraßen für dieses Projekt.
