Mit einer der heutigen vergleichsweise ähnlichen Paläogeographie und den global deutlich wärmeren Bedingungen ist das Neogen in idealer Weise für Fallstudien bezüglich des derzeitigen Klimawandels geeignet.
Forschungsschwerpunkte von NECLIME sind Paläoklimarekonstruktion (einschl. Entwicklung des atmosphärischen CO2 -Gehalts) und Analyse terrestrischer Ökosysteme im Neogen.

Combining a palaeogeography relatively close to present and globally warmer conditions, most Neogene time periods anticipate future climate change and thus are suited for case studies in an ideal manner.
NECLIME research themes comprise palaeoclimate reconstruction, including atmospheric CO2, and ecosystem analysis using multiple quantitative methods on various proxies (palaeoflora; vertebrates; invertebrates; isotopes; geological proxies).

Die bei ODP Ausfahrt 208 gewonnenen Sedimentkerne erlauben eine detaillierte Rekonstruktion der zeitlichen Änderungen der Tiefen- und Bodenwasserflüsse über das Paläogen und Neogen.
Darüber hinaus ermöglicht der erbohrte Tiefentransekt eine Rekonstruktion dieser Änderungen in Abhängigkeit von der Wassertiefe.

Paleogene to Neogene sediments recovered during ODP Leg 208 at Walvis Ridge allow detailed reconstructions of the timing and variability in the changes and reorganization of the deep- and bottom water masses over a range in water depth of more than 2000m.
The aim of the project is to reconstruct the circulation of deep- and bottom-water masses during the Cenozoic.
