Mit dem Aufbau des International GPS Geodynamics Service ( IGS ) wurde 1992 auf der Geostation Zimmerwald durch die Landestopografie eine permanente GPS-Station eingerichtet.
Die Daten dieser Station werden vom Center for Orbit Determination in Europe ( CODE ) am AIUB zur Bestimmung hochgenauer GPS-Satellitenbahnen verwendet.
