Beim Dolby-System wird ein rotierendes Farbfilter-Rad in den Strahlengang des Projektors integriert, welche die Lage der Wellen für die RGB-Primärfarben für das rechte und linke Bild minimal gegeneinander verschiebt.
Die entsprechenden passiven 3D-Brillen sind mit Filtergläsern ausgestattet, die exakt auf diese Verschiebung abgestimmt sind, so dass jedes Auge nur eines der beiden Bilder wahrnehmen kann.

A rotating filter wheel assembly integrated in the D-Cinema projector slightly shifts the spectral position of the light waves for the RGB primary colours of the right eye and left eye pictures.
The filter lenses of the corresponding passive 3D glasses are tuned to the resultant colour shift, so each eye can only perceive one of the two projected 3D subframes.
