Als Leiter Rechnungswesen prägte er zunächst die Grundzüge der Betriebsbuchhaltung des neuen FLAG-Amtes swisstopo.

Davor war er 1992 als Leiter der Betriebsbuchhaltung der Raab Karcher Wärmetechnik GmbH, Bochum, in den Veba-Konzern eingetreten und ab 1997 in der neuen Gesellschaft Veba Wärmeservice GmbH, Gelsenkirchen, im Bereich der Stabsabteilung Controlling tätig.
Begonnen hatte er seine berufliche Laufbahn bei der Karstadt AG Hauptverwaltung in Essen, erst in der Filialbuchhaltung und ab 1989 in der Stabsabteilung Bilanzen / Konzernrechnungslegung.
