Bei der Wiederherstellung ehemaliger Braunkohleabbauflächen ist die Förderung der Biodiversität von Beginn an fester Bestandteil der Abbauplanungen.
Rund die Hälfte der ehemaligen Abbaufläche ist heute landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche, weitere 8.000 Hektar sind Wälder und Grünflächen.
Hinzu kommen 800 Hektar neu entstandener Wasserflächen.
