The evolution of social communication as well as the variety of media dispositives and appropriations can be described only from different perspectives and broad range of methods.
Subject of a historical mediatization research with a focus on communication is in particular the formation and evolution of various media since the 15th Century and their interplay, the history of communication and the social transformation of the public sphere (also in international comparison).

To this end, the phenomenology of the 20th century will form the methodological basis in that the dispositives of our perception and of what we consider to be true are located in the context of the lifeworld.
Especially in the case of interdisciplinary cooperation the phenomenological analysis of man’s lifeworld provides a basis to the integration of the social, legal, historical, geographical, and physical aspects of geoengineering within the framework of a comprehensive anthropological interpretation.

Gerade bei der Notwendigkeit der Kooperation mit den sachbeteiligten Disziplinen gibt so die phänomenologische Analyse der Lebenswelt eine Basis, auf der die sozialen wie rechtlichen, historischen wie geographischen und zuletzt rein physischen Aspekte des Geo-Engineering im Rahmen einer Gesamtdeutung anthropologisch-historischen Zuschnitts integriert werden können.

A particular research focus lies on the specific forms and dispositives of film, media art and popular culture, their production, distribution, broadcasting, exhibition, mediation and appropriation together with their preservation and collection in archives.
Thereby not only media production and media artworks are anaylized, but also their aesthetic experience through collective and individual use plus the discourses and cultural interactions that accompany them.

Ein besonderes Augenmerk der Forschung liegt dabei auf den spezifischen Formen und Dispositiven von Film, Medienkunst und Populärkultur, ihrer Produktion, Distribution, Sendung, Ausstellung, Vermittlung und Aneignung, sowie ihrer Speicherung und Sammlung in Archiven.
Untersucht werden dabei neben Medienprodukten und Medienkunstwerken auch deren ästhetische Erfahrung durch gemeinschaftliche und Einzel-Nutzung, sowie die sie flankierenden Diskurse und kulturellen Interaktionen.
