Dr. Alfred Bauer, a film historian and film consultant to the British military government following the war, was appointed director of the festival.
On 6 June 1951, the International Film Festival opened at the historic Titania Palast movie theater.
The opening film was Alfred Hitchcock ’ s Rebecca, whose star, Joan Fontaine, was one of the festival ’ s celebrated guests.
