The MIRI consortium consists of ESA member states Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
JWST is a joint project of NASA, ESA and the Canadian Space Agency.
It is scheduled to launch in 2018 and will carry four scientific instruments:

The JWST will be built and operated jointly by ESA and NASA.Its launch is scheduled for 2013.
Although it is considered the ( much more powerful ) successor to the optical HUBBLE Space Telescope, which should be in operation until 2010, it is in many respects a derivative of the infrared telescopes ISO through HERSCHEL, working in the spectral region between 600 nanometers ( visible light ) and 27 micrometers ( mid-infrared ).

Das JWST wird von ESA und NASA gemeinsam gebaut und betrieben, sein Start ist für 2018 vorgesehen.
Es gilt mit seinem Hauptspiegel von 6,5 m Durchmesser als Nachfolger des optischen Weltraumteleskops Hubble, ist aber in mancherlei Hinsicht eher eine Weiterentwicklung der Infrarotteleskope wie ISO oder HERSCHEL, denn es wird vom sichtbaren Licht bis hin zum mittleren Infrarot Daten aufsammeln.
