Since 01 / 01 / 2006, the European Health Insurance Card ( EHIC ) is valid in all countries of the European Union as well as Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.
It has replaced, amongst others, the Auslandskrankenschein (form E 111) but, other than E 111, it is only valid for temporary stays abroad (holidays, transfer of employees, job search, study stays) and may only beused for services necessary on medical grounds.
