In men, inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis); prostate gland (prostatitis), and urethral stricture (urethritis) can result from untreated gonorrhea.
However, for serious acute cases of pyelonephritis or bacterial prostatitis where the patient may need to be hospitalised, fluoroquinolones are recommended as first-line therapy.
