Its mineral composition includes fibrous chrysotile (known commercially as asbestos), talc, olivine (green lava grains) as well as ferromanganese, a mineral containing magnesium and iron.
The chrysotile group of minerals are polymorphous, meaning that they have the same chemical formulae, but the molecules are arranged into different structures, or crystal lattices.
Six minerals have been classified as asbestos including chrysotile of the serpentine class and those belonging to the amphibole class: amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, anthophyllite and actinolite.
