Gemeinsam, mit tatkräftiger Unterstützung der Kärntner Landesregierung Abteilung Agrar, unter Landesrat Dr. Josef Martinz, den Österreichischen Bundesforsten unter dem Oberforstrat DI Günther Tragatschnig sowie Privatwaldbesitzern können nunmehr pro Hektar Kärntner Wald 8 bis 10 Bäume mit einem Spechtsymbol markiert werden und sind ihr Leben lang vor Abholzung geschützt.
Weiters arbeitet RtW im Monitoring des internationalen Bartgeierprojektes seit 2000 und als ornithologische Beobachter seit 2006 bei Bird Life Kärnten mit .
Bereits 2001 beobachteten die Diplomzoologin Manuela Siller und Hans Peter Sorger in einem abgelegenen Areal des Naturparks Weissensee einen vom Aussterben bedrohten Eulenvogel, den Habichtskauz (Strix uralensis).
